Years and Roads Bear Witness...

The automotive industry has always played a crucial role in the Bayraktarlar Group, which was founded in Kayseri.

What started out as a trade business grew to become a manufacturer within four generations.

The corporate was founded by Haji Halil Bayraktar in 1935. It started expanding with the efforts of the second generation, showing rapid advancement in the transportation of auto parts. The corporate's business ventures broadened with the assistance of Haji Mehmet Bayraktar, and Bayraktarlar became one the leading companies of the region.

In 1953, İzzet Bayraktar of the third generation introduced the family business to import trading. With the belief that staying in Kayseri wouldn't be adequate during this new process, the main offices were moved to Istanbul, and the transfer was completed in 1963.

Bayraktarlar became a leader as the supplier of Mercedes parts in a short time, and, with the manufacturing of Mercedes busses in Turkey at the beginning of the 1970s, the corporate was appointed as the main dealer of Mercedes vehicles.

As the new business opportunities that were sought in Istanbul elevated Bayraktarlar's expertise, the corporate embarked on new frontiers. It became the automotive lighting agency of the French corporate, CIBIE. In the 1970s, the project Lassa was created along with a group of investors from Kayseri and the Sabanci family; the Bayraktarlar Holding's main offices were built and Bayraktarlar Motorized Vehicles AS was founded.

The experience gained in the automotive sector motivated the corporate to get involved in manufacturing, and it started producing and assembling automotive lighting. The first industrial plant of the corporate, Bayraktarlar Motorized Vehicles Trade and Industry AS started production in 1979, in Bursa. This first facility, which was the earliest example of its kind at the time, and which was later named Farba, is where Bayraktarlar became an industrial player, making important contributions to the nation's economy and the automotive industry in the years to come.

The group expanded its capacity multifold in the 1980s by tending towards different sectors. At a time when tourism had just started developing, Bayraktarlar, along with foreign partners, built important tourism establishments on the Mediterranean coast for the nation. Furthermore, introducing Turkey to the concept of shopping malls, the corporate took part in the construction of the Ataköy Tourism Complex as a partner and contractor. It was also during these years that Bayraktarlar sped up its investments in the automotive parts industry to create a significant potential in exports.

Towards the end of the 1990s, the Turkish Automotive Industry started manufacturing and exporting vehicles for the global Western market. Alongside these developments, Bayraktarlar Automotive Lighting Group also started manufacturing and delivering competitive, high quality headlights and taillights in large quantities to meet the global market's needs.

In order to become a brand name, add to the list of references and increase its value added in the global automotive industry, FARBA made major investments, and considerable profit in the AR-GE field at the beginning of the 2000s.

All these developments were supported with EFQM and the lean production and management systems of Farba, and the corporate has won various awards in different fields from its customer-relations, the global automobile manufacturers.

At the beginning of 2011, Bayraktalar Group took a big step in expanding its global market position with the acquisition of the Odela Group, a German corporate that specializes in exterior automotive lighting. It has consequently started manufacturing the rapidly changing LED technologies. With the acquisition of the Odelo Group, Bayraktarlar started manufacturing technology and became a strategic partner of the German automobile producers.

Towards the end of the 2000s, the Bayraktarlar Group acquired one of Turkey's first 5-star hotels, The Grand Tarabya Hotel through privatization, and once again utilized its prior knowledge of and experience in tourism and construction in this field. The hotel, which is considered a historical landmark, has been restored.
